THE MORRISON-MAIERLE, INC. TESTING FACILITY
The Testing Facility was constructed in the Morrison-Maierle building complex located at 2880
Technology Boulevard West in Bozeman. It is centrally located within 15-20 minutes from any
site in Bozeman. The facility is equipped to perform the following tasks:
Compaction Testing
Morrison-Maierle has eight Troxler Nuclear Gauges for the testing of soil density, compaction,
and moisture content. These gauges are also capable of testing asphalt density and
compaction. Currently Morrison-Maierle has 11 engineers and technicians who are trained and

Soil and Aggregate Testing and Analysis
The Morrison-Maierle Testing Facility personnel are capable of determining soil classification,
which includes soil strength, stability, settlement characteristics, permeability, and the swell and
shrinking characteristics. This will determine the soil's proctor for the Troxler Nuclear
Densometer testing. Morrison-Maierle's Bozeman-based engineer and technician personnel are
also able to test soil material gradation, clay sample preparation, course aggregate preparation,
Atterberg limits, hydrometer, organic content, specific gravity, and sampling.
With aggregates materials, the engineer and technician personnel can perform sieve analysis
on fine and course materials, determine specific gravity and absorption of the materials, and
conduct LA Abrasion testing with offsite equipment.
Concrete and Masonry Testing
Morrison-Maierle's Testing Facility has nine ACI Field Testing Technicians (Grade 1)for testing
concrete delivered to the construction site. This includes slump tests, unit weight, percent air
entrainment, prepare concrete cylinders, store concrete cylinders in water curing tanks, and test
(break) the cylinders to determine the concrete strength. The facility can store up to 280 four-
inch or 200 six-inch cylinders in the temperature controlled water curing tanks.

The testing facility has a Forney F-250E-02 Compression Testing Machine for testing the
concrete cylinders. The Forney is calibrated annually by Qal-Tek. The personnel will monitor
the cure times and cap the cylinders for compression testing. Additionally they can prepare
masonry prisms and grout prisms for compression testing. The engineer and technician
personnel are trained in the proper placement of concrete and can assist the project owner in
evaluating and inspecting the contractor's work.
The Morrison-Maierle testing facility works with the Montana State University College of
Engineering to share the testing facilities and allow engineering students training on the different
materials testing requirements.
Bituminous (Asphalt) Testing
The testing facility is equipped to test bituminous materials, including in-place compaction,
Marshall Density, maximum specific gravity and voids analysis, thickness and density of cores
and the rice specific gravity. The engineer and technician staff that would be on site are trained
in the proper placement of asphalt and can assist the project owner in evaluating and inspecting
the contractor's work.
