Commission Memorandum
REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: John Van Delinder, Street Superintendent
Chris Kukulski, City Manager
SUBJECT: Award Bid for One New 2007 Portable Asphalt
Recycling/Milling/Trenching Machine with Transport Trailer
MEETING DATE: November 19, 2007 Consent Agenda
RECOMMENDATION: That the Commission award the bid for one new asphalt
milling machine in the amount of $75,950.00 to Asphalt Zipper Inc.
BACKGROUND: Per the Fiscal Year 2008-2012 Capital Improvement Program, the FY08
budget provides $96,000 for the purchase of a small milling machine. This will allow us to do
small milling projects such as utility cuts and downtown alleys. The millings removed from
these projects by this machine will be able to be used as fill or reheated into asphalt and can thus
be recycled and reused saving both time and money.
Bids were requested and only one received and opened on November 7, 2007..
FISCAL EFFECTS: The purchase total of $75,950.00 is $20,050 less than what was
budgeted for this item. This machine will greatly increase our versatility in pavement repairs and
restoration.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
Respectfully submitted,
