Commission Memorandum
REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: Chris Kukulski, City Manager
SUBJECT: Commission Pay Ordinance 1621 Amendment
MEETING DATE: Tuesday, November 13, 2007
BACKGROUND: The City of Bozeman Charter approved November 7, 2006, states
that “the City Commission may determine the annual salary of the
Mayor and Commission members by ordinance, but no ordinance
increasing such salary shall become effective until the date of
commencement of the terms of Commission members elected at the
next regular election. The mayor and Commission members shall
receive their actual ordinary and necessary expenses incurred in the
performance of their duties of office.”
Ordinance 1621 adopted September 7th 2004 fixes the salaries of
the City Commissioners at $625.00 per month and the Mayor’s pay
at $937.50 per month.
If a change in salary is to be implemented for the upcoming
Commission term, an amendment to Ordinance 1621 must be
approved on first reading not later than November 13, 2007.
RECOMMENDATION: The Commission determines what change, if any, should be made
to Ordinance 1621 setting the compensation for the Commission
and Mayor.
FISCAL EFFECTS: If a change is made to the Commission Pay Ordinance, it would
affect the wage and benefit expenditures accordingly.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by Commission
Respectfully submitted,
