In college I was very active in working to reduce our school s environmental
impact as an intern on the Sustainability Committee I made proposals for wind
and solar energy and wrote articles on our work for the school newspaper Since
then I have held an internship with the Natural Resources Defense Council in
Washington DC working on smart growth issues I also did a research project
on green building for an alternative energy non profit in Olympia WA called
Climate Solutions I recently finished working for a green builder in the
Bozeman area called Riverbend Builders where I learned even more about solar
energy and efficient building practices

8 years since moving back 4 years previously 1977 81 BS in Chemical Engineering MSU childhood
hometown is Billings
MS Chemical and Environmental Engineer Consultant currently specializing in science writing conference
hosting website creation also book author
self employed
have never served on City or County Board active participant in many non profits as Board member or
participant
Iam an MS Chemical Engineer with 25 years of experience in the public research institutions private
industry and consulting sectors For 11 years mostly through the 1990s I served as lead Environmental
Engineer for the Hewlett Packard Inkjet factory in Corvallis Oregon One part of my job was to help
minimize our global warming potential most specifically related to perflourinated compounds PFCs e g
CF4 C3F8 SF6 used as corrosive gases for wafer etching Iserved on the Sematech Austin TX
consortium of seven major US electronic firms technical advisory board that lead the industry s voluntary
efforts to reduce the use of PFCs Ialso helped scope new HP facilities in Ireland and Puerto Rico and
tried to work C02 reduction into the planning for these buildings though in the 90s relative to today we
were admittedly less successful pushing for C02 limits than the PFC efforts I believe our nation s energy
path has incredible implications with respect to the environment and national security rivaled perhaps only
by population numbers I also subscribe to the philosophy that all politics are local Thus I believe that
what we do here in Bozeman with respect to discovering and then carrying out logical and or uniquely
innovative ways to minimize our carbon footprint has the potential of impacting behavior of other
communities thereby bettering our world The local part is this we can control only what we can control
For Bozeman to decrease its carbon footprint requires no push or Ok from outside Indeed it only
requires one thing actionuso lets get started

Hi Scott
Thanks so much for coming to the meeting and I amattaching an application form for you to fill out If
you have problems typing your information on there just copy and paste it onto an email and send it to
me I am setting September 24th as the date for the city commission to make their appointment to fill the
vacancy
There is also a grassroots group called the Citizens Concerned for Climate Change and they do have a
yahoo list serve
Please go to
http llt hg QJJP yahQQ CQm group CCCC Bo cman
and on the right near the top click on the button that says Join This Group You will be asked to
create a sign in name and a password Along the way in the sign up process LOOK FOR the choices to
either
receive all emails as they come in or
receive a digest i e one email once a day of all emails from that day or
not to receive any emails at all you want to check them on the web site instead
Also if you don twant a bunch of irrelevant e mails be sure to click the options that spare you from
