HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-17-07 Award WWTP Trucks Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Paul Layton, Wastewater Treatment Plant Assistant Superintendent Chris Kukulski, City Manager SUBJECT: Award Bid for Two New 2007 Semi-trucks for the Wastewater Treatment Plant in the net amount of $180,863 MEETING DATE: September 17, 2007 Consent Agenda RECOMMENDATION: That the Commission award the bid for two new 2007 Freightliner Semi-Trucks for the Wastewater Treatment Plant to Rocky Mountain Truck Center in the net amount of $180,863.00, which includes a $24,000.00 trade-in allowance for two 1982 semi trucks and $3,143.00 in options. BACKGROUND: Per the Fiscal Year 2008-2012 Capital Improvement Program, the FY08 budget provides $200,000 for the purchase of two new semi trucks for the Wastewater Treatment Plant. These trucks are used to haul trailers of wastewater liquids and/or solids used as fertilizer to farm fields. These trucks will replace two 1982 semi trucks, which will be traded in on the purchase. Bids were requested and two bids were received and opened on September 5, 2007. The low bid received was from Rocky Mountain Truck Center for two Freightliner semi-trucks in the gross amount of $201,720. They offered $24,000 trade-in allowance for two 1982 trucks. Rocky Mountain Truck Center recommended a few options be added to the trucks, for an additional $3,143, for a total net bid price of $180,863. $2000 of the option price is for a 5 year extended warranty on the automatic transmissions. The second bid received was from Kamp Implement for two International semi trucks for a gross bid of $219,734, with $16,934 offered for trade-in allowance, for a net bid of $202,800. Both bids meet all listed specs. FISCAL EFFECTS: The purchase total of $180,863.00 is $19,137.00 less than was budgeted for this item. These new trucks will save time and money because they will require less frequent repairs and vehicle down time, and new vehicles are typically more fuel efficient and exhaust far less harmful emissions. 27 ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
