In order to assure that the material specifications detailed by the design professionals are followed during construction and to assure that the materials used on the project meet all engineered specifications, periodic inspections are required at various stages of the project. The special inspections and structural testing requirements are detailed in the bid documents for the project and called out in the International Building Code. Proposals for the inspection services were submitted by 5 engineering firms. These proposals were reviewed by staff and comments were provided by the architect and construction manager’s representative on the project. Interviews were conducted with two of the firms and a contract was negotiated with the top choice firm. 14 The scope of services in the contract calls for inspections at both critical points of the project and at intervals throughout certain stages of the project. These services include: Soils and Foundation Testing; Testing of Cast-in-Place concrete; Masonry Testing; and Structural Steel Testing and Inspection. The contract has negotiated with a set fee for all services, such as concrete pour testing, concrete cylinder break tests, post tension concrete inspections, and soils testing and inspections. A schedule of testing has been outlined to meet the requirements outlined in the design specifications and building code. These services are packaged in a contract for services with a not to exceed figure. If it is determined that some testing services can be safely reduced or the number of site visits cut back, or if multiple tasks can be accomplished during a single site visit the contract costs can be reduced. RECOMMENDATION: Based on the review of the proposals that were submitted and the interviews conducted with the firms, staff recommends the award of the contract to Nishkian Monks. The not to exceed number in the contract is $78,000.00. A copy of the contract is on file with the City Clerk for your review. Commission action on this consent item is to award the contract for Special Inspection Services for the Downtown Bozeman Intermodal Facility to Nishkian Monks and authorize the City Manager to sign the contract. FISCAL EFFECTS: The services will be paid from the construction monies set aside for the Intermodal Facility. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission. Respectfully submitted, _________________________________ ____________________________ James Goehrung Chris A.
