Arbor Day Tree Planting at Beall Park—Friday, April 20th, 10:00 – 11:45 am The Bozeman Tree Advisory Board and City Forestry Division are sponsoring a tree planting project at Beall Park, which is located between N. Black and N. Bozeman avenues and Villard and Short streets. The event will be held on Friday, April 20th from 10:00 to 11:45 am. Third and fourth grade classes from Whittier and Hawthorne schools will attend the event and participate in tree activities with City Forestry staff and advisory board members. Through a grant from the Arbor Day Foundation, the Forestry Division will plant trees of varied species along Short Street. Additional boulevard trees—generously donated by nearby homeowners—will be planted in the boulevard along North Black Avenue later in the day or later in the season. Students will also plant flower boxes for the new Parks and Recreation Department headquarters soon to be located at Beall Park. Annual Clean Up Bozeman Day—Saturday, April 21st, 8:30 am - 1:30 pm The Bozeman Beautification Advisory Board invites everyone—including individuals, families, businesses, community service organizations, schools, and churches—to participate in Bozeman Clean-Up Day 2007. This event will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007. Registration begins at 8:30 am at Bogert Park on S. Church Avenue. The goal is to clean up Bozeman's parks, streets, school grounds, trails, streams, vacant lots, and parking lots. Those wishing to participate can pick up garbage bags, gloves, and safety vests at registration tables beginning at 8:30 am at Bogert Park, or trash bags can be picked up the week before at the Bozeman Swim Center. Everyone participating is invited to a free BBQ, musical entertainment provided by the Chief Joseph Middle School Jazz Band, and a raffle (sponsored by area merchants) beginning at 11:30 am and ending at 1:30 pm at Bogert Park. This year’s clean-up day event will also celebrate Arbor Day by including a special tree planting at Bogert Park. The tree will be provided by the Bozeman Tree Advisory Board, Bozeman Forestry Division and the Arbor Day Foundation, as part of several Arbor Day events taking place throughout the city. Poop for Paws—Saturday, April 21st, 1:00 - 5:00 pm; Boys and Girls Club On Saturday, April 21st, local community service volunteers and area youth will coordinate Poop for Paws, a project in honor of National and Global Youth Service Day. All members of the community are encouraged to attend. The project will begin at 1:00 pm at the Boys and Girls Club in Bozeman, from where participants will head to local parks to clean up waste and compete for prizes. At 3:00 pm, participants will 1 5 return to the Boys and Girls Club for two hours of activities, education, and celebration. The event will conclude by 5:00 pm. As part of the effort, participants are encouraged to ask sponsors to provide a dollar amount for every pound of dog poop that is collected. Individuals are also encouraged to bring donations of dry or canned pet food. All proceeds will benefit the Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter in Bozeman. Arbor Day Tree Planting at Irving School—Wednesday, April 25th , 10:30 am The Irving School and Bozeman Tree Advisory Board are sponsoring a third Arbor Day tree planting project on April 25th at 10:30 am. Four trees will be planted at the Irving School (611 S. 8th Avenue) to complete a project started one year ago. First and second grade classes will attend the event and participate in tree activities with advisory board members. This is truly a citizen-led, collaborative project that benefits all of us in the Bozeman community. Special thanks must go to Irving School parents for coordinating the project and securing funding and donations; Heisel Nursery, Sweet Pea Landscaping, Bozeman Youth Initiative and Wal-Mart for their donations; the Irving School for hosting the event; and Ben Zavora and the Bozeman Tree Advisory Board for helping to educate the students about the importance of trees in our community. 5. Arbor Day Willow Planting on Mandeville Creek—Friday, April 27th, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm Local volunteers and city staff will plant nearly 2,000 willow sprigs along Mandeville Creek to help celebrate Arbor Day! Details for the willow planting are: Location: Mandeville Creek on City of Bozeman/State Land, north end of the property off Red Wing Drive. (North 7th, past Murdoch's Ranch & Home store. Turn left onto gravel road across from Northern Energy--before the road goes over the railroad tracks. Date & Time: Friday, April 27 at 10:00 am until early afternoon. Attire: Dress for inclement and changing weather conditions—comfortable and sturdy shoes for walking and planting trees, work gloves, etc. Miscellaneous: If you plan to stay on site during the lunch hour, you may want to consider bringing water and food. Longfellow School students will be on site in the afternoon to help with planting and to learn about Arbor Day and the benefits this project will have for Mandeville Creek's water quality.
