Budget Highlights
March 5, 2007
Beall Park Recreation Center was built and dedicated to the City of Bozeman in 1927.
Eighty years later the facility has once again become a community Recreation Center.
We are in the process of renovating the inside of the building for City recreation
programs, Recreation Department offices and for recreation rental use by the
community. We have removed the temporary walls that have been installed over the
years and have opened the building so it can be used for community events. Beall is a
spectacular building and is on the National Historical Register so we are making every
attempt, within the budget, to restore the building to the proper historical era. The Beall
Park Recreation Center will be a money maker for the City of Bozeman. Last year the
Lindley Center revenue was $21,100. For FY 2008 we are requesting phase II, III and
IV.
· Phase II Add stairs and a patio to the north side of Beall Park Recreation
Center.
- Cement stairs and river rock work $10,000.
- Ground level patio $3,589.
· Phase III Remove and replace the south ramp and deck to bring up to code.
- Install new ramp, deck and rock work $25,000.
- Repair exterior rock work on the facility especially on the east entry
$3,000
· Phase IV Replace the 1927 windows and doors in the facility to conserve
energy.
- In order to keep the historical character of the building the windows and
doors need to be custom built. $40,000.
Lindley Park Center has served the City well and generated funds for 18 years. The
only need for FY 08 is new flooring in the main area. $5,900.
Swim Center & Bogert Pool are both in the maintenance stage. The City of Bozeman is
in need of an additional outdoor family aquatic facility. Our goal is to keep Bogert Pool,
operational as long as possible. Bogert is only in need of summer start up funds while the
Swim Center is desperate for a new heating and ventilation system for the entry, office,
lobby and locker rooms, $25,000. Major repair work to the Swim Center pool shell is
needed. We are currently negotiating with the contractor who did the work four years
ago.
Additional Recreation Program Personnel Request
An additional $4,680 for a .25 FTE Recreation Leader
· New programs would include a fall soccer league for children age 4-5, set up and
like our current t-ball league which had 380 participants and 80 volunteer
coaches. Additional preschool offerings would include science, movement,
music, and a little explorers. Program revenue would be generated to offset the
recreation leader salary.
An additional $11,960 for a .50 FTE Outdoor Specialist
35
· The new program offerings would target three markets, families, teens and baby
boomers and include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, rafting, climbing,
backpacking and adventure trips. The outdoor programs would provide
individuals and families leadership opportunities, respect for the environment and
the essential skills necessary to truly enjoy what Bozeman has to offer.
