MEETING DATE: June 16, 2014 AGENDA TYPE: Action RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move to confirm the Mayoral reappointment of Jennifer
Pawlak to the Library Board of Trustees.
BACKGROUND: Jennifer Pawlak’s term on the Library Board of Trustees expires June 30, 2014. She has reapplied. No other applications have been received.
The Library Board of Trustees is created under Section 22-1-308 of the Montana Code
Annotated and Section 2.56.010 of the Bozeman Municipal Code.: Under Section 2.56.010 of the B.M.C., the Board of Trustees of the Public Library shall be composed of five persons and shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of
the Commission, and shall serve without pay. The trustees shall hold their office for the term of
five years, and one trustee shall be appointed annually at the beginning of each fiscal year (July
1) for the term of five years, and until his/her successor is appointed and qualifies. Trustees shall serve no more than two full terms in succession.
They shall have power to select librarians and other employees as they may determine and fix the
amount of any bond which they may require to be given by the librarian and other employees.
They shall have power to receive books from all sources for the use and benefit of the library and to purchase books therefore with any money available for that purpose and power to prescribe all rules and regulations for the use of books and the preservation of the same. The board shall keep
a record of its transactions and shall make a report to the City Commission at the close of each
calendar year, covering the business transacted by it during the year (Ordinance No. 1163, 1984;
Ordinance No. 1094 S 1, 1982; prior code S 2.08.200). No residency requirements are contained in either the M.C.A. or the B.M.C. Under state statutes, this Board is administrative.
The Library Board of Trustees has one term expiring. The member has reapplied.

Please explain your relevant qualifications, interests and experiences. : I have been happy to be a
member of the Library Board of Trustees since 2011. My previous professional experience as a
librarian, combined with my regular usage of the library as a mother of young children, provides
me with a dual-understanding of the challenges and successes facing the Bozeman Public
Library. As a library trustee, I participated in the library's long-range strategic planning process
in 2013. I would welcome the opportunity to help transition those plans from paper to reality,
and keep the Bozeman Public Library a thriving, much-loved community resource.
