COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 9U3
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN,
MONTANA, DECLARING THE NECESSITY AND DESIRABILITY OF THE
INSTALLATION OF A TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNAL LIGHT SYSTEM AT
THE INTERSECTIONS OF' NORTH SEVENTH A VENUE AND SOUTH EIGHTH
AVENUE AT MAIN STREET IN THE SAID CITY OF BOZEMAN, AND AU-
THORIZING THE SAID CITY OF BOZEMAN TO ENTER INTO AN AGREE-
MENT WITH THE STATE OF MONTANA FOR THE SHARING OF COSTS OF
1 THE SAME
WHEREAS, the intersection of North Seventh Avenue and Main Street in Bozeman,
Montana, is a junction of U. S. Highways No. 10 and No. 191; and
WHEREAS, the intersection of South Eighth Avenue and Main Street is a junction
of a heavily traveled arterial street leading to Montana State College and U. S.
Highway No. 191 which, in addition to normal heavy traffic, carries an extra load of
traffic to the new Gallatin High School which was opened at Eleventh Avenue and Main
Street at the beginning of the current school year; and
WHEREAS, there are off-sets between North Seventh A ,renue and Sou th .seven th .A venue
and betwee~1 7Torth Eighth Avenue and South Eighth Avenue and their intersections with
Main Street which create special traffic hazards and special traffic control problems
at these intersections; and
WHEREAS, special traffic controls at these intersections are needed to prevent
undue and unnecessary delays in traffic movement on U. S. Highways No. 10 and No. 191;
and
WHEREAS, the Highway Department of the State of Montana has made studies of the
conditions and need for traffic controls at these intersections and has rocoITITnended
installation of a traffic control signal light system which they estimate to cost Seven
Thousand and nO/lua Dollars ($7,000.UO); and
WHEREAS, the Clty of P,(neman is desirous of entering into an agreement with the
Highway Department of the State of Montana for sh~rlng the cost of the traffic control
signal light system recommel1ded by the said Highway Department;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN:
I Tha t, conditioned on the Highway Department of the State of Montana preparing
the necessary plans and specifications, contracting for supervising the installation
of the traffic control signal light system described herein, the City of Bozeman will
pay for a pro-rata share of the estimated Seven Thousand Dollar cost of said install-
ation, the share to be paid by the City of Bozeman to be 43% of the actual cost and not
to exceed 43% of the estimated Seven Thousand Dollars ($7,000.UO) cost of the install-
s tion as herein described.
Passed and adopted by the Commission of the City of Bozeman at a regular session
thereof held on the 7th day of May 1958. ~~Q-~ -~
