Johnson, Solid Waste Superintendent Chris Kukulski, City Manager SUBJECT: Partial cell closure construction bid award MEETING DATE: September 25, 2006, Consent Agenda BACKGROUND: The contract entails capping and seeding 4.7 acres on the southern and eastern portions of the existing 15.3 acre operating cell at the Story Mill Landfill. The cell will still operate but the partial closure will cap and seed a portion of the cell that is no longer in use. The Engineers estimate was $155,921.00. The High bid was $424,200.00. The low bid was $159,521.00 which is recommended by staff and our Engineer Great West. RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign the construction contract with Schumaker Trucking and Excavating contractors in the amount of $159,521.00 for the partial cell closure. FISCAL EFFECTS: The project will be funded through the Solid Waste Disposal budget. $450,000.00 was budgeted for the whole cell closure. ALTERNATIVES: As may be suggested by the City Commission.
