SUBJECT: Parking Commission Appointments
MEETING DATE: July 17, 2006
BA(--XGROU.ND: The Parking Commission was created under Section 7-1.4-46, M.C.A., and
Commission Resolution No. 1676 adopted by the City Commission on May 8, 1974, as ariiended
by CUiliii NSiOn. Resolution No. 1839 adopted by the City Commission on November 24, .1976
and Commission Resolution No. 3803 adopted by the City Commission on June 6, 2005.
The Parking C'ominissiori is a five-ine.mber administrative Board and also advises the
Commission regarding parking and fines in the ".B-3" coned area of the city. t)nder statutory
provisions members of the Board are appointed by the Mayor, with the approval of the
Commission, to staggered four-year terms and must he "electors of the City." in the past, every
effort has been made to appoint.business people who have been assessed for SID No 565, which
provided the funding for the four off-street parking lots over which the Parking Commission has
control.
The Parking Commission has the authority to purchase land and may hold title to that property.
Under the provisions of Commission Resolution No. 3803, aclopted by the Commission on June
6, 2005, the Parking Commission was given power to regulate off street parking in B-3 zoning
districts and residential. parking permit areas only.
As of June 30, 2006 the term of Steve Schnee, and Paul Burns have expired leLIN ing two
openings.
