HomeMy WebLinkAboutF6 Water Rights Acquisition Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Rick Hixson, City Engineer Chris Kukulski, City Manager SUBJECT: Water Rights Acquisition Contract MEETING DATE: July 24, 2006 BACKGROUND: The need to acquire new water rights whenever available and convert existing water rights so that they are more useful to the City was identified as an urgent need in the recently completed Water Facility Plan. The best way to accomplish that goal is to retain the services of a water rights professional to constantly monitor the availability of any new rights and assist us in acquiring them, and to work on improving/converting any rights we already have to make them more useful. To that end, the City solicited proposals to provide water rights acquisition services from qualified firms. Based on those proposals it was determined that Water Right Solutions, Inc. was the most qualified to provide those services to the City. The attached Professional Services Agreement formalizes our contract with Water Right Solutions, Inc. The fees for the work are based on the actual hours the consultant spends working on acquisition services for the City. RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City Manager to sign the Professional Services Agreement to provide Water Rights Acquisition Services. FISCAL EFFECTS: The cost of the services is based on the hours that the consultant actually works on water rights issues for the City. The funding source for these efforts is the Cash-in Lieu of Water Rights money which the City has collected (and will continue to collect) over the years. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission. Respectfully submitted, _________________________________ ____________________________ Rick Hixson, City Engineer Chris A.
