Honorable Mayor and Commissioners,
Thanks for your work on the NDO. I appreciate the extra time you’ve spent to get the wording right.
I would like to bring one area to your attention where I don’t believe the present wording aligns with the Commission’s intentions. Specifically, I have been under the impression that religious schools were intended to be excluded from the definition of “Employer.” As currently written, they’re not. Fortunately, a fix requires no more than a handful of words to be changed.
I have attached two proposed revisions that bring the language of the ordinance abreast of this intent. Neither is extensive, but I think they both do the trick. One is easier to understand; the other is a lighter physical revision. I encourage the Commission to consider one of these revisions or another revision of its choice that will realize the goal, as intended, of exempting religious schools from the Employer requirements.
