HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1021 Memoriam to Dan R. Lovelace ---- ---.. -.. .-- 32 COMMISSION RESOLUTION 1021 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA IN MEMORIAM TO DAN R. LOVELACE I WHEREAS, Dan R. Lovelace, Tiy Attorney of the City of Bozeman, Montana, died on July 1'1, 1961; and WHEREAS, the members of the City Commission of the City of Bozeman, Montana, desire to express their profound appreciation of his long valued and outstanding public service to the City of Bozeman and this community and to express their regret at his death by the presentation of this memorial; and WHEREAS, he came to Bozeman, Montana, at the age of three years, obtained his elemetary and secondary education in the Bozeman school systems and higher education at Montana State College, Montana State University, North Carolina University, Stanfor and Harvard Universities returning to Bozeman to open a practice in law in 1946. He was ~pointed City Attorney on July ~6, 1947, and served continuously in that capacity until his death; and WHEREAS, Dan R. Lovelace's long participation in the municipal affairs of this City and of the State of Montana was in the highest tradition of public service. Although actively and busily engaged in private business and many civic endeavors throught his career as City Atorney of this City, he was never too occupied to devote his time and energy to the affairs of his City and its people. Always he brought to the councils of his municipal govern- ment legal advice, sound judgment, a devotion to duty and an integrity of the very highest type. The wisdom of his particularly long range thinking was given freely to this City and its peop~e as well as the benefit of his discern- ing mind and thorough understanding; and WHERAS, public servants with the competence, integrity and devotion to duty of Dan R. Lovelace merit the continued respect and gratitude of all the citizens of this City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY I OF BOZEMAN: That this City is a better community for his iife and service and we hereby express our appreciation therefor and we express the sympathy of this body and of all emp!oyees of the City of Bozeman to his family and friends in their and our loss. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk of this Commission be, and he is hereby, instructed to forward a properly certified copy of this reso- lution to his widow, Mrs. Audrey M. Lovelace.
