Length of time in the Bozeman area: Since the time that wheat was raised where Safeway now stands,
when 9th and 10th streets were gravel roads and 11th was an alley, when the Emerson was a grade
school and Wilson was the Junior High, when everyone knew the name of the community drunk and we
had one homeless guy named Chuck who lived in a box near the railroad station, when milk was
delivered by Gallatin Creamery in glass bottles at your doorstep, when nobody locked their doors and
neighbors shared telephone party lines, looked out for each other and policed their own neighborhoods.
