RE: FY15/FY16 CTEP Project: City Wayfinding System
Commission Meeting: May 19, 2014
I am writing in support of the CTEP funding request for a comprehensive and coordinated city
wayfinding sign system as proposed by the City of Bozeman Public Works Department.
The 2010 Downtown Improvement Plan recommends we “capitalize on Bozeman as a regional
hub” as one strategy to strengthen downtown businesses. More specifically the Downtown Plan
recommends “implementing a comprehensive locale and regional wayfinding sign plan.”
Approximately a year ago I presented the Montana Department of Transportation with a
conceptual plan to replace and enhance the existing wayfinding signage that directs visitors to the
downtown district from the various entryway corridors. At that time, MDT indicated they would not
implement district or “attraction” specific wayfinding sign plans, but rather would require that an
integrated community-wide plan be developed.
Therefore, I began coordinating with Craig Woolard to develop a plan to design, produce and
install a comprehensive wayfinding system for the entire city.
I have earmarked Downtown Tax Increment Finance funds as matching funds to be contributed to
the CTEP local match if necessary.
Thank you for your support of the request for CTEP funding for a City wayfinding system.
Respectfully Submitted,
Chris Naumann
