HomeMy WebLinkAboutNon-Discrimination Public Comment from Debbie Schenk 4-28-14From:Debbie Schenk To:Agenda Subject:Bozeman NDO Date:Monday, April 28, 2014 2:45:44 PM Bozeman City Commissioners, Thank you for your time on this important matter. My name is Debbie Schenk and I have two properties in Bozeman. My husband and I plan to retire there permanently in the next 2 years. In the mean time we spend as much time as we can there and chose Bozeman because of it's people, it's attitudes and it's "good feel". We are native Montanans and think that Bozeman is one of the best places in the state. We support an NDO in Bozeman. One of our sons is gay and we think that it makes sense that he would have the same opportunities and protections, if needed, in the area of housing, jobs and public accommodations. This are not special rules. These are protections that the straight community enjoy every single day and never think twice about. Does discrimination happen. It does. Sometimes outwardly and sometimes very subtly. NDO's are put into place not becasue we think that people will discriminate but in case they do. For the LGBT community of Bozeman, which includes so many wonderful people, to know that these protections are in place should they ever be needed. It sets a standard, a guideline that makes Bozeman an even better place, for ALL people. Please vote yes on the Bozeman NDO. Thank you. Debbie Schenk 301 Donegal Drive Bozeman, MT 59715
