HomeMy WebLinkAboutNon-Discrimination Ordinance Public Comment from Bernard Cole 4-17-14 /e /u- 6 , April 3, 2014
One of the issues the Bozeman City Commission is dealing with right now is the
Non Discrimination Ordinance. There are a lot of opinions concerning this according to
all the letters in the Chronicle.
I myself, being of the older generation, have observed this issue for a long time.
As I look back over the past 40 or 50 or 60 years, there have been gay people since the
beginning of the human race.
The public was aware of these people. It was never an issue. These people lived
in the community. They were never discriminated against. They had jobs. They owned
their own businesses. They were involved in the community organizations, churches and
schools.
These people did not have parades down main street carrying placards and flags
advertising their life style as they do now. It appears they are challenging the public to
discriminate against them.
There are always extremist on both sides of any issue. I am sure that the majority
of the gay people are not taking part in these parades.
I say if the extremist on both sides of the issue would cool their rhetoric , no Anti
Discrimination Ordinance would be necessary. All that will do is stoke the fire.
I recommend to these fellow citizens who happen to be gay to part of the
community and to be involved in community organizations. If you desire to be part of a
church, there are plenty that will accept you. It does not need to be headline news such as
the recent gay basketball player who joined the NBA.
