HomeMy WebLinkAboutWestbrook Zoning Public Comment from Ginny Bratton 4-15-14From:Ginny Bratton To:Agenda Subject:Westbrook Zone Map Amendment and impact on Durston traffic Date:Monday, April 14, 2014 10:36:54 PM I am writing regarding the Westbrook Zone Map Amendment Request that was presented to the citycommissioners during the 4/14/2014 meeting. My husband and I have been homeowners at 4362Brookside Lane since 2011. We enjoy the open spaces in this area with our dog and feel that the PetraAcademy and Meadowlark Elementary are nice additions to the neighborhood. However we have noticed that increased development along Durston between Cottonwood and LoveLane has resulted in heavy and fast-moving traffic. And, we have seen very little structural controlsintroduced along Durston to slow, control, and/or regulate this traffic. For example, my husband and Ihave been tailgated and passed by cars and trucks driving 45 mph during school hours on weekdays inthe designated school zone. I fear that this zoning amendment will further exacerbate the problem. I am writing to request that the commission prioritize the installation of roundabouts, speed bumps, andtraffics lights immediately and more as needed should the zoning amendment be passed. The densityand speed of traffic had led to an increase of accidents - particularly at the Durston - Cottonwood andDurston - Ferguson intersections. This is not the safe neighborhood that I believe the city had in mindfor an area with 3 schools (Heritage Christian, Meadowlark Elementary, and Petra Academy), as well asthe Bronken soccer complex. This is a community safety issue, and it also impacts our quality of life. I sincerely hope the commissionwill take the appropriate action to ensure the safety of its citizens who live in this area. Please takemeasures to ensure smart development of the land out here, and please upgrade traffic controls toforce the increasing population in the area to respect and obey traffic laws and keep the children andfamilies in this area safe. I appreciate your service and your efforts to ensure our safety and quality of life. Sincerely,Virginia Bratton
