Dear City Commission:
I am writing to strongly encourage the approval of the Story Mill Community Park. As a commercial pilot and aerial photographer in the Gallatin Vally over the past 20 years, I have watched our community infrastructure expand from a very different perspective. Visually and spatially, this has been largely manifested in the proliferation of malls and mini storage, big box stores, bigger roads, and parking lots. I do not claim that these elements are a categorical detriment to the valley. However, the land use, community, and economic interests they serve do not significantly contribute to what makes Bozeman such a unique, desirable, and safe place to live. These are the qualities that attract the entrepreneurs, the innovative business startups, and the productive workforce that want to raise their families in a safe community with high standards for education, recreation, and health.
I believe that a network of high quality parks, trails, and other centrally located shared space is as important to our community as a vibrant and thriving Main Street. This opportunity to bring our residents together in such a desirable recreational and educational location will greatly contribute to the community health, education, security, and pride.
Please support this project to help parks and recreation and community green space keep up with the influx of parking lots, storage units, and strip malls.
