Dear Mayor Krauss and Members of the Commission:
We are writing to urge you to approve the Story Mill Community Park proposal. We are
neighbors of the proposed park and use the Story Mill Spur Trail several times a week,
always enjoying the wildlife of the area and the open natural space so close to town. This
well thought out park proposal has something for everyone in it.
<!--[if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->The active area will include playground
equipment and athletic fields that we wish had been available to our children
when they were growing up in the neighborhood. Other young families will
benefit greatly from these facilities in the future.
The wetlands and natural area will provide an outdoor classroom for
education. As former parent volunteers in the schools we can say this would
have been a perfect location for our Wetlands/Watershed Outdoor
Educational Days.
<!--[if !supportLists]--> <!--[endif]-->The proposed trails will greatly enhance the
City’s trail network. This community has an insatiable appetite for trails and
open space. While other mowed lawn parks often sit empty, the trail systems,
especially through natural parks such as Peet’s Hill and the East Gallatin
Recreation Area, are almost always in use keeping our community active and
healthy.
<!--[if !supportLists]--><!--[endif]-->The wildlife sanctuary and natural habitat
that this area provides is of far greater value than for just the species of
wildlife inhabiting the area. The human/wildlife interface and opportunity to
view wildlife is one of those immeasurable values that give such great pleasure
in life.
We hope you will see the wonderful opportunity for Bozeman that this multi-use park
represents. The Trust for Public Lands and many other community organizations are ready
to pour money and resources into helping the city to develop the park which will greatly
leverage the City’s investment.
Please vote YES for the Story Mill Community Park! It will be a beloved asset for the
community for generations to come.
