Dear City Commissioners-
I am writing in hearty support of one of the best and brightest ideas I’ve seen to promote ecological sustainability, livability and community pride in Bozeman. The Story Mill Community Park deserves your highest consideration for allocating Trails, Open Space and Park funds. This is exactly the type of project I had in mind when I voted for the bond.
I live on the north side and appreciate having the Story Mill Spur Trail as a place to walk, run, ride my bike and sit quietly or listen to birds along the creek. Despite being so close to the interstate, this remnant affords a great little spot to re-connect with nature right in town. The idea that this natural area can be expanded as a park to preserve its natural and cultural values thrills me.
The Trust for Public Lands should be applauded for spearheading this vision. I have read their proposal and am impressed by their partnership building efforts. Their request of $4.5 million seems very reasonable especially given the generous match they are willing to put towards the project.
I look forward to being involved in the public design process for this very worthy project that stands to protect wetlands – something that benefits everyone of us whether or not we ever set foot in the park. The benefits from the creation of Story Mill Community Park are far-reaching and one that the City should support.
Thank you for listening.
Sincerely,
Angela Kociolek
