For the Attention of the Bozeman City Commission, and Trails Open Space and
Parks (TOP) Committee,
As a member of the rapidly growing Bozeman Youth Lacrosse community, I am
writing to ask for your consideration in supporting the development of the proposed
Sports Park Facility that has recently applied for $9 million dollars of funding from the
Trails, Open Space, and Parks Bond that we, the local voters, approved during last
Fall’s elections.
My son has participated in Bozeman Lacrosse for over three years, and in that time
we have experienced the incredible growth the game of lacrosse has undergone not
only across the country, but also here in Montana. Currently, Bozeman Lacrosse has
the use of only one (1) City of Bozeman field to service over 300 youth players.
This lack of available playing field space is an unfortunate situation for our young
athletes. In order to successfully compete with other surrounding Montana
communities, we need a high quality Sports Park Facility that supports our active
increasing population and reflects the quality of our healthy community.
As a former local downtown business owner, I know first hand the financial benefits of
Bozeman’s dynamic surroundings. People want to travel here, and those visitors tend
to stay awhile spending money on food, lodging, and recreation. At the present time,
the City of Bozeman is missing out on huge revenues that are generated by youth
field sport tournaments. With the proposed Sports Park Facility, Bozeman would
finally be able to accommodate and host regional and statewide events and
competitions for a variety of field related sports organizations, bringing thousands of
families and their money to the Bozeman area.
Thank you for your time and consideration in supporting our community’s current and
future needs for the proposed Sports Park Facility. I look forward to the day that we
can all watch my son and his friends playing lacrosse on fields that were designed to
be true sporting fields!
