To: TOP Committee and Bozeman City Commission:
I am writing in support of funding a high quality sports park capable of hosting largestatewide and regional tournaments in Bozeman. As a parent of a U12 Blitzz soccerplayer we have traveled to Butte, Great Falls, Helena and Jackson Hole in order toparticipate in statewide and regional tournaments. We have also hosted someregional tournaments but have had to split the groups up among various fieldsaround Bozeman. Comments from parents who have multiple children in differentlevels of play has not been very favorable for Bozeman. Due to the difficulty inhosting the regional and statewide events, I would expect the events to go to citieswho have such facilities. It seems if Bozeman is to attract the tourism revenueassociated with these tournaments it makes sense to fund such a sports park.
Bozeman is a desirable community and continues to enjoy growth in population andbusiness commerce. A sports park would be one of many aspects of the communitythat would entice adults and families to move to the city.
We have long surpassed the ability of Bronken Fields to provide the kind of venuethat is needed at least for the soccer and lacrosse players of Bozeman. As the citycontinues to grow it behooves us to plan for the numbers we have now plus theexpected growth in the near future. Building a sports park makes sense for thecommunity.
Thank you for taking this matter under consideration and thank you for yourcommitment to Bozeman’s Parks and Trails. I urge you to support funding at thegreatest level possible a high quality sports park that will show our commitment tothe active youth and adults in our city.
