Dear Bozeman City Commission and TOP Committee,
My son is an active soccer player through the Blitz Club. So, we get a lot ofpressure from Blitz to support the proposal currently before the city to use theconservation bond money to build an expensive new soccer complex. Howevermuch we love soccer, the scale of this project is outrageous.
Our family does not support this proposal. The bond was sold as a way tosupport our trails, conserve open space, and supplement our city parks' budget. This soccer proposal would use almost 2/3s of the fund for one very specializedpurpose! That was not what we voted for in the bond election!
While we need reasonable increases in playing field space as the city grows, thisproposal is not the best use of the bond money. The supporters assert that a newpark will bring significant business to town - that may be true, but that was not thepurpose of the bond as it was presented to voters.
Please say no to this proposal. Ask the soccer folks to come back with a muchsmaller request for funds, or ask them to put a new funding proposal before voters. Do not allow the conservation fund to be hijacked!
