New Applicants: Guy Alsentzer Nolan Campbell Laura Dornberger Dan Stevenson Meagan Snodgrass (application received 2-28-14) Attachments: Board Applications AdvisoryBoardApplicationID: 81 Form updated: 2/14/2014 Name: Guy Alsentzer Physical Address: 209 N 3rd Ave, Bozeman, Montana 59715 Primary Phone: (406) 570-2202 Email: guyalsentzer@gmail.com Your current occupation: Lawyer Employer: Upper Missouri Waterkeeper, Inc. How long have you lived in the Bozeman Area?: 1-5 yr Which position are you applying for?: Zoning Commission City Limits: yes Have you ever served on a City or County Board or Commission?: yes If so, how long?: Several years If so, where ?: Bozeman, MT; Wrightsville, PA Please explain your relevant qualifications, interests and experiences.: A Montanan by choice, I moved to Bozeman because of the unique cultural and social values that bind together our community. I wish to see our city grow and flourish thoughtfully, in line with the good planning work previously done in fashioning a Comprehensive Plan and neighborhood-specific growth plans. Beyond a passion for service and our community, my educational and experiential background are strong qualifications for service on the City Planning Board. I possess a juris doctor and masters degrees, with coursework in advanced land use planning, including public works and infrastructure, related items essential to a holistic understanding of city planning. Similarly, I've applied these and related skill sets professionally as staff at organizations focused on protecting and improving community health and resiliency, as well as on other municipal boards. More specifically, I've served on citizen boards for the City of Bozeman previously (WRB) where I have very much appreciated meeting and engaging other service-oriented members of our community and stakeholders in the public. Insofar as I served but the brief 4 month remainder during 2013 of a Planning Board vacancy, and in that short time enjoyed working on the projects before the Planning Board and fellow Board members' congeniality, I respectfully request the Commission allow me the opportunity to serve a new full-term and, in so doing, give back to the community which I hold dear. I am interested in participating on the Zoning Commission because I deeply care about Bozeman's development. I believe responsible zoning can provide efficient densities, walkability, and neighborhood development while respecting the character of existing neighborhoods. I believe sitting on a public board is a serious obligation, one in which the board member is responsible to educate themselves on the related codes/ordinances that are being administered. I am committed to understanding the pertinent sections of the UDO and providing the fairest interpretation of the ordinance that I can. I’d like to contribute to building tomorrow’s Bozeman and feel that I will be an effective Zoning Board member capable of making a positive contribution to our fine city. Bozeman is a special place. I’m grateful to live close to campus and can appreciate that it’s a wonderful location for students and faculty alike. I’ve read the Bozeman Municipal Code and see the value and wisdom in our strategic plan. I’m glad for recent development, especially on the south side of town. We’re blessed that we can expect growth to continue. My husband Ross and I are lucky to call Bozeman home and have benefitted from the strong local economy. It is unique for a rural mountain town to allow people to flourish personally and professionally. I’ve earned a BS in Biology and MS in Microbiology from Montana State University and am a proud Bobcat. I’ve had a successful career as Lab Manager and Undergraduate Lab Coordinator at MSU. This fall, I had the opportunity to pursue other projects and am happily not working outside of the home. I continue to enjoy serving as a CAP mentor with Thrive as I have for the past 4 years. The Bozeman Municipal Code are the specific details for our current agreement on how to be good neighbors and continue to build our community for the future. I’ve enjoyed the efforts of this careful planning and I’d like to contribute by serving on the Zoning Board.
