Jamie Saitta, Recreation Manager
February 2014
We launched a curling league this winter and it has been very successful. More than 75 people attended our
learn to curl clinic in January, which was the kickoff to the season. Our league is full with 12 teams and we have 8 teams on a wait list. Our next clinic is on Feb 22 and is filling
fast. We look forward to offering more curling opportunities next year; there is definitely a lot of interest. The Curling Club in Missoula is hosting a bonspiel (tournament) in March
and has invited our curling teams to join! We hope to host a statewide bonspiel in Bozeman in the future. Curling takes place on the upper rink at Southside on Tuesday, Thursday, and
Friday evenings through the end of February.
Through a contract with the Bozeman Figure Skating Club, we offer Learn to Skate programs at the Bogert rink on Tuesday afternoons. This
is our second year, and the programs continue to be popular for people of all ages. Our recreation leaders teach youth fun on ice classes at the Southside rink on Thursdays, which are
also popular. Skating lessons will continue through the end of February.
The Wild Ice Initiative is a new mobile hockey program hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department, Bozeman
Amateur Hockey Association (BAHA) and Play it Again. Equipment and instruction are provided by BAHA coaches, free of charge, to anyone who is interested.
Bogert Park: Saturday, February
1, 12:00-2:00pm
Beall Park: Saturday, February 8, 12:00-2:00pm
South Side Park: Sunday, February 9, 12:00-2:00pm
We will be hosting a Father Daughter Valentine Dance on the evening
of February 12th at the Lindley Center. The dance has become a special tradition for many families through the years.
Our next “Schools Out” camp is on February 17 at the Beall Park
Recreation Center. Our camps are offered to children age 6-10yr on the days they are out of school.
The summer program guide will be out on March 2nd, which means we are busy planning.
We had a very successful summer in 2013 with a lot of full classes, so we will be offering some old favorites in addition to many new.
The City of Bozeman is investing in an energy
audit of more than 30 buildings/sites. The Lindley Center and Beall will be included and the energy evaluation process will start next week with engineers from McKinstry.
