Rouse Ave., Bozeman City Hall, Madison Room Members Attending: Kristen Walser, Kathy Powell, Jay Sinnott, Paula Beswick, Cyndy Andrus (Commission Liaison) Natalie Meyer (Staff Liaison) 1) Call to Order -9:02am 2) Changes to the Agenda-None 3) Public Comment a) Walser introduced idea for an economic climate summit in Bozeman for the spring. She is in early planning with the Sierra Club and Montana Conservation Voters. They currently have Jeremy Brecher, author of Jobs Beyond Coal, and Tom Powers available as speakers. They would like to cover topics such as the impact of climate change on the outdoor industry, how insurance companies are handling increased risk associated with climate change, and the impact of business as usual. 4) Approval of Minutes – Minutes from 10-16-13 approved 5) Action Items a) Bozeman Business Energy Program i) Meyer shared the most current presentation for the Bozeman Business Energy Program, which was approved by the Economic Development Council on 11-7-13. The presentation was also presented to the Gallatin Association of Realtors on 11-7-13. ii) Input Received: (1) Under the list of activities that can be undertaken by a business to join the Energy Program, use the phrase “including” instead of “or” in reference to “a variety of other sustainability activities” (2) Under the program overview slide, list the tasks a business must do before listing the recognition strategies. (3) Specify that non-profits can participate. (4) Under the Wild Joe’s example, move the cost to make it clear that is represents lighting only. (5) Suggestions to add other examples to represent both a building renter and building owner scenario. (6) Beswick provided contact information for Tom Winston of Grizzly Creek Films for an example. He is in the middle of a retrofit and chronicling the activities carefully. (7) In examples, clearly outline funding packages to represent all the available rebates. (8) Specify that the new half time employee will help interpret the NorthWestern Energy audit. (9) Specify the geographic boundaries of the program. (10) Need a slide describing the background of the Big Box Fund (11) Change “Potential Partners” to “Advisory Partners” or “Key Partners” since many organizations could be on the list of potential parterns (12) Beswick moved to recommend approval fo the Bozeman Business Energy Program to the Bozeman City Commission. Sinnott seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. 6) FYI/Discussion a) Energy Smackdown & Weekly Workshops i) Meyer received second quote for marketing assistance. Final selection tomorrow and then contract will be negotiated through the Legal Department. The City will likely end our involvement with the weekly workshops at the Weatherization Center at the end of the year. b) Idle Free Bozeman i) Flyers went out to the school. Meyer has received a few calls with positive comments. Two private schools have requested signs and these were delivered. ii) Walser suggested that we still need a sign behind the High School. c) Investment Grade Audit i) Contract is being review in the Legal Department. d) Newsletter i) Close to completion. Thank you to Sinnott and Powell for contributing stories. Meyer will send a draft to group for review. e) CoB/MSU Roundtable i) Meyer was invited to participate in a roundtable with MSU to discuss opportunities for City/MSU partnerships. She invited suggestions on topics to bring to the table related to sustainability f) Next Regular Meeting: Listed as 11-16-13, CORRECTED as 12-18-13
