IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the following City of Bozeman Idle Policy will be followed by all employees when operating a city vehicle or applicable equipment. DATED THIS 5th day of May, 2009. Chris A. Kukulski, City Manager City of Bozeman Idle Policy I. PURPOSE. The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance concerning the idling of internal combustion engines in City of Bozeman vehicles. II. POLICY. It shall be the policy of the City of Bozeman to manage and operate its fleet of motor vehicles in a manner that conserves energy and minimizes emissions. III. APPLICABILITY. This policy applies to all City of Bozeman employees while operating applicable City of Bozeman vehicles or equipment. IV. RESPONSIBILITY. It shall be the responsibility of all City of Bozeman employees to comply with the procedures set forth in this policy. V. PROCEDURE. A. Engine idling shall be kept to the absolute minimum amount necessary. B. Engines shall not be idled simply to "warm up" or pre-heat the cab. C. On vehicles equipped with air conditioning, engines shall not be idled in order to "pre-cool" the cab. D. Engines should never be allowed to idle while refueling the vehicle. This not only wastes fuel but is both dangerous and illegal. All engines must be shut off prior to fueling.
