Delegation of Authority
The City Manager has the authority to appoint, hire, discipline and fire City personnel. See
City of Bozeman Employee Handbook IV-1; M.C.A. Sections 7-3-304(13), 7-32-4108, 7-32-4113,
7-32-4155, 7-33-4106, 7-33-4122, and 7-33-4123; and, Bozeman Municipal Code Section
2.08.OlOB(13). Each department director is responsible for the conduct of the officers and
employees of the department. Since the department director is responsible for the conduct of his or
her officers and employees, the department director should also have joint authority with the City
Manager to appoint, hire, discipline and fire its officers and employees.
I hereby delegate to the department directors the authority to appoint, hire, discipline, and fire its
officers and employees. The department directors shall exercise this authority in accordance with
_City policies. The authority to appoint, hire, and fire shall not be further delegated.
This delegation of authority does not abrogate my authority to exercise my authoity to appoint, hire,
discipline and fire. I reserve the right to withhold any or all of this authority from any department
director.
My previous Administrative Order No. 1998-O1 entitled "Delegation of Authority" is hereby
revoked. This Administrative Order No. 2002-01 is effective immediately and shall remain in effect
until revoked in writing by me.
