HomeMy WebLinkAboutAdministrative Order No. 1999-01 Non-work related E-mail and Internet Usage ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER NO. 1999-01 Non-work Related E-Mail and Internet Usage City computers are provided for official business relating to City affairs. The City recognizes that during the course of the day, employees receive and send non-work related e-mail. The purpose of this Administrative Order is to establish guidelines relating to the personal use of the City's Email and Internet programs. 1. The Telephone, Fax and Copier Usage Policy found in Section IX of the Employee Handbook requires that personal telephone calls are kept to a minimum. Likewise, the sending, receiving and reading of non-work related e-mail, as well as time spent on the Internet on non-work related matters, must be kept to a minimum and, whenever possible, performed on non-work time. 2. Accessing Internet sites which are inappropriate for the workplace or which might adversely affect the confidence of the public is prohibited. 3. Whenever an employee sends or otherwise distributes non-work related E-mail to another employee within the City, the employee should personally obtain the receiving employee's consent to receive the e-mail prior to transmittal. 3. Personal e-mail transmissions must comply with the City's Sexual Harassment Policy, fourrl in Appendix D of the City of Bozeman's Employee Handbook. This Administrative Order is effective immediately and shall remain in effect until a more comprehensive policy is adopted either by Administrative Order or through an amendment to the City of Bozeman's Employee Handbook.
