Dele ;ution of Authority
'The City Manager has the authority to appoint, hire, discipline and fire City personnel.
See City of Bozerna~l Employee Handbook IV-l; MCA Sections 7-3-4363 (2) & (3), 7-3-
4402, 7-32-4108, 7-32-4113, 7-32-4155, 7-33-410G, 7-33-4122, and 7-3 3-4128; and
Bozeman Municipal Code Section 2.08.OlOB(2) & (3). Under MCA Section 7-3-4402,
each department director is responsible for the conduct of the officers and employees of
the department. Since the department director is responsible for the conduct of his or her
of=ficers and employees, the department director should also have joint authority with the
City Manager to appoint, hire, discipline and fire its oii~icers and employees.
I hereby delegate to the department directors the authority to appoint, hire, discipline, and
fire its officers and employees. Since I am the director oi'the department of public safety,
I hereby delegate to the Chief of Police and the Fire Chief the authority to appoint, hire,
discipline, and fire its officers and employees. The department directors. Fire Chief; and
Police Chief shall exercise this authority in accord~uice with City policies. The authority
to appoint, hire, and fire shall not Ue further delegated.
'I'bis delegation of authority does not abrogate my authority to exercise my authority to
appoint, hire, discipline and fire. I reserve the right to withhold any or all of this
authority from any department director, Police Chief or Fire Chief at any time.
