WORKSHOP FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT REVIEW STUDY COMMISSIONERS
Purpose The purpose of the workshop is to help newly elected and appointed study
commission members learn about their roles and responsibilities during their review
of their unit of local government.
Topics The primary topics of the workshop will be:
Issues confronting Montana's local governments.
Local government forms and powers.
Study Commission procedures and study techniques.
Resources Resource people for the workshop include a number of seasoned experts in local
government from around the state, including local government officials and
university faculty. Question and answer sessions will provide an opportunity to
share concerns and ideas with each other and with the workshop instructors.

FEES
The fee for the workshop is $100. This includes a Study Commission guide and a textbook
describing the Voter Review process, the structure and powers of local governments and the
outcomes for all counties and municipalities from previous cycles of the Local Government
Review process. The fee will also include lunch on Thursday, hors d'oeuvres Thursday evening,
breakfast on Friday morning, and refreshments during the workshop. It does not include travel
and lodging costs, which should be covered by the local government undergoing review as part
of the study commission's operating budget.
REGISTRATION
To register, return the attached form with the registration fee or county/city claim form which is
also acceptable for payment. Early registration is encouraged to aid in workshop planning.

HOUSING
Participants are responsible for their own housing arrangements. A block of rooms is available at
the following motels:
1. Bozeman Holiday Inn rates are $60 single (plus tax). To reserve call 406 587-4561 and request
a room in the Study Commission Workshop Room Block. Rooms will be held until December
2, 2004. The motel is located at 190 and North 7`h Ave.
2. Bozeman Grantree Inn rates are $60 single (plus tax). To reserve call 406 587-5261 and
request a room in the Study Commission Workshop Room Block. Rooms will be held until
December 7, 2004. The motel is located at 190 and North 7`h Ave.
3. Bozeman City Center Motel rates are $60 single (plus tax). To reserve call 406 587-3158 and
request a room in the Study Commission Workshop Room Block. Rooms will be held until
December 1, 2004. The motel is located at 507 W. Main St.
CANCELLATION POLICY
If notice of cancellation is received by the Local Government Center by December 10, 2004 the
registration fee will be refunded less $10. No refund will be made for cancellations received
after that date. Substitute participants may be made at any time.
