SUBJECT: (Re)Appointments to the Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board

RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move to reappoint Steven Keuch and appoint Adam Fruh and Amy Green to the Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board.
BACKGROUND: Seven terms expired on this board June 30, 2013. One member with an
expired term has reapplied and two new applications have been received. New applicant Adam Fruh currently serves on the City Planning Board and the Zoning Commission.
The Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board was created under Chapter 2.80 of the
Bozeman Municipal Code. This chapter is designed as a measure to establish a local historic
preservation program designed to promote the preservation of historic and prehistoric sites, structures, objects, buildings, and historic districts by addressing historic preservation issues at the local level and integrating them into local, state, and federal planning and decision-making
processes. The historic preservation program includes identification, evaluation, and protection
of historic resources within the city (Ordinance No. 1180, Section 2, 1985).
The Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board shall serve in an advisory capacity to the City Commission, Planning Board, Zoning Commission, and other staff members or boards
seeking advice on historic preservation issues (Ordinance No. 1454, Section 2, 1998; Ordinance
No. 1180, Section 3, 1985).
Members are appointed to staggered two-year terms. It is to be comprised of up to fifteen members:
(1) Three or four professional members with professional expertise in the disciplines of history,
planning, archaeology, architecture, architecture history, historic archaeology, or other history preservation-related disciplines, such as cultural geography or cultural anthropology, provided,

however, that at least one member shall be an architect holding Montana or NCARB registration;
(2) Two to four members from historic districts;
(3) One member from the Main Street commercial district, who "shall operate a business or own
property in the neighborhood described as Main Street"; (4) Four to six at-large representatives.
Residence within the City shall not be a prerequisite for professional members or at-large
representatives. This board is considered advisory, although it is generally responsible for
overseeing the operation of the Historic Preservation Office. This board currently has seven expired terms, one vacancy, one reapplying applicant and two new applicants.

Please explain your relevant qualifications, interests and experiences.: My undergraduate work in architecture and training in the building profession has cultivated a index of details for period classic design. Many of these works have to be preserved with care and modernized with rational
discretion. Homage is due to the past, where it is clear certain significance in order for a period
in time has been achieved. A vision in all the glory of humanity's ability and achievement for

Please explain your relevant qualifications, interests and experiences.: I graduated from MSU with a degree in History and Museum Studies. I am passionate about seeing our city maintain its historical qualities. After taking a class on historic preservation from Courtney Kramer, it
became apparent to me how much there is to appreciate in Bozeman. It also became obvious that
there is a lot of work to be done to keep our city beautiful and aware of its roots.

and creating furniture from the Arts and Crafts period. Currently, I'm restoring a 1914 bungalow
in Butte. I would like to promote historical awareness, through educational workshops, and thus
encourage the preservation of Bozeman's historical structures.
