Minutes of Meeting April 2, 2013
Chamber of Commerce Building, Bozeman Montana
Present: Daryl Schliem (Executive Director)
Board Members:
Andrew Ash , Lynn Bendz (sec/treas), Tim Kuhlman, Larry Lambert (president), Carl Solvie, Tom Stenzel
Advisory Board Members: Melanie Stocks, Sandra Hodge
City Commission Liason:
Public: Darin Barbe (Lambert Hotels) Matt Sease (Bzmn Super8), Tara Cousadden (LaQuinta)
Tim Kuhlman opened the meeting at 12:00 and asked for disclosures; there were none.
Tim
asked if there was any public comment and Matt Sease gave an update on the 7th Avenue bridge construction. Matt also gave a report on the events committee, where they are thinking of
sponsoring a football tournament and or a marathon. Melanie Stocks had lots of information and experience for Matt on trying to organize a football tournament: it’s a daunting task
not supported by the smaller communities. So good luck with that one. Sandra Hodge gave us information about the nightly motel call around.
The minutes of the last meeting were approved
on a motion by Andrew Ash, 2nd by Tom Stenzel, all signaled approval.
Melanie gave tournament committee report and said they were bidding for the combined boys/girls basketball AA,
B, A, and the boys C basketball for the 2014/2015 season. She spoke of the zero bidding process and how some communities zero bid is not comparable to ours: they do add some costs into
their bids. But Melanie also said that Bozeman has an excellent reputation among the players, parents, and coaches and they like to play here. That can be as important as the low
bid.
Daryl spoke of the Destination Showcase that he attended in Las Vegas, along with representatives from Missoula and Billings. He felt there was a lot of duplicated efforts among
the three Montana cities, and perhaps by combining forces, we could still entice some groups to Montana, all the cities would ultimately benefit, and we would save money. Everyone
thought that was a good idea, and Daryl will pursue some avenues to collaboration.
Melanie mentioned that the college rodeo was this Thursday thru Saturday and hoped everyone was getting
bookings.
Larry Lambert took over the meeting at 12:40 after arriving.
Meeting adjourned at 1;05PM. Next meeting April 23, 2013.
