HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-13-12, Pool_ Feasibility_Study_notes Pool Feasibility Study Meeting 12-09-12 Attendance-Julie Zickovich, Bob Wade, Michael Dougherty(President Masters swim),Julie Raaf (Masters swimmer), Dan Himsworth (Masters swimmer),Audrey Wooding ( Masters swimmer), Kathy Brown (water aerobics). In case you are wondering we all had coffee after swimming on Sunday morning. Note:All of the opinions and thoughts discussed below are based on the final meeting where the results of the pool feasibility study were presented to the public. Bottom line-We should fix Bogert and fix the Swim Center. The brand new aquatic facility is too expensive. We should focus on aquatics first, after we complete that work with other groups(YMCA for example)to create more indoor recreation space. Swim Center- Remodel has no complaints from the fitness swimming community. It will allow for more use at one time-water aerobics, synchronized swim, masters etc. However, we don't think that the voters will go for the Swim Center remodel without Bogert too. Bogert- More complicated. Is the reason for keeping an outdoor pool at Bogert park for sentiment? Will the voters not vote for a new pool if it isn't at Bogert? Could a new pool be put somewhere else? Would it make more sense as far as space, parking, traffic, etc to put somewhere else? New plan accommodates very little fitness swimming space. Not even 25 yards?Since this pool is getting remodeled why not have some forethought and put in the outdoor swimming space. Is this something that we will regret later? Concerns were brought up that if we change anything about the plan for Bogert it will take a lot longer to get accomplished and maybe we should just go with what we have. Other discussion -Survey-Where the results really statistically significant? In the end what surveys were used in the study? A lot of surveys were handed out that weren't mailed. Were they all pooled together? -If Bogert doesn't accommodate a fitness swimming option maybe the East Gallatin could get revamped to accommodate open water swimming better? How did Bogert and the Swim Center get so run down? Why haven't there been repairs done to keep them from being on their"last leg". How are we going to ensure this doesn't happen to the new/remodeled pools? What exactly does it mean for Bogert to be leveled? Will any of the remaining structure be used? Does it save money?
