• Chairperson Tuckerman called the meeting to order at 1:04pm.
• Agenda Item #4 was discussed immediately

0:06:09—Item #3—Approve May 31, 2012 meeting minutes—Action Item:
• No changes were requested
• No public comment was presented
Motion: Boardmember Ball motioned to approve the May 31, 2012 minutes as presented.
Boardmember Derby seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
0:00:00— Item #4— Park and Recreation Director Mitchell Overton introduction:
Was discussed immediately after the meeting was called to order
• New Parks and Recreation Director Mitch Overton introduced himself
o came from Lancaster Ohio where he was the Parks and Recreation Director
o has a graduate degree in Recreation Administration
o this Cemetery Department is the first in his career, he discussed cemetery maintenance
with the Cemetery crews in Lancaster before coming here
• Chairperson Tuckerman introduced the board members
0:07:14— Item #5— Board Vacancy— one applicant, Irene Dahl:
• when the agenda was written there was only one applicant for the position, another application
was received before the meeting and two other people said they had applied on line for the
position also. There was a brief discussion as to make a decision today or wait until the next
meeting, it was decided to make a recommendation to the Commission
• the two applicants are:
o Irene Dahl
■ owner of Dahl's Funeral Home
■ is someone that has been in the area for twenty years and knows situations that
could come up, she would have information that may be helpful in making
decisions
o Jason Donin
■ MSU student
■ students have a tendency to be too busy to attend meetings, the Rec & Park Board
has had problem with MSU students being able to attend meetings
• likes the idea of having someone young on the board
It concerns that he has only been in Bozeman for one month
Motion: Boardmember Popwell motioned to recommend Irene Dahl as the new board
member.
Boardmember Derby seconded the motion.

• Discussion included:
o concerns regarding conflict of interest were discussed including; there is no money involved
and the board is advisory so no conflicts should come up
The motion passed unanimously.
• Chairperson Tuckerman will write up the recommendation and send it to the City Clerk's office
tomorrow
0:20:15— Item #6— Memorial Garden Update:
• Superintendent White provided the following information:
o the irrigation system has been installed
o the granite slab has been ordered and has been shipped
o the area has been seeded once and will be seeded again
o would like to see the garden opened by mid-summer if the grass looks good
o staff will work on designing an entrance
o the student design was very elaborate and conflicted with the irrigation system
• the board would like to see a plan drawn out, staff will draw something out so the
board can see what the plan is
o the Forestry Division has worked on the trees
o a path on the west edge was cut in for an entrance
o plague's will probably be two inch by one inch with just the name, birth date and death
date on them
o board members were encouraged to look at the area so they have an idea of what is being
discussed
o fees would be discussed for the new services at the May meeting
o discussed making a more private area using the tree donation program and what it is goiIIE
to look like
o the Garden could open before the project is complete, improvements could be made even
after the Garden is open
00:35:08— Item #7—Columbarium Update:
• the granite slab was ordered from the same company that the columbarium was purchased from
and to save shipping costs they decided to ship them together; because of this the columbarium
delivery has been pushed back to around September 10"'; coordinating the crane service to move
the columbarium is part of the hold up
• the cement pad has been poured, once the columbarium arrives it will be set on the pad and sealed
then it will be done
• the bench needs to be drilled and doweled in
• the last niche in the old columbarium sold on Monday
• the purchase came in under budget

0:39:55— Item #8—Veterans Wall Update:
• the wall has not been painted yet, they considered spraying it but because of the wind they decided
to roll it on
• more requests for plagues should be here next week
• the balance in the bank is $9,535.83
• the kiosk information packet was provided
o the quoted cost is$10,750. with freight and a 3 year warranty
• discussed who would do the repairs
o it has been installed in locations that have extreme cold and extreme heat with no
problems
o Boardmember Lowell's advise will be sought about the shelter
o is considering including the Vietnam Wall and the Cemetery in the computer information
o discussed the location, because power would need to be run to the shelter it would be best
on the west end of the wall
■ the computer would go to rest when the cemetery is closed.
o vandalism is a concern, it has increased this summer; a lot of stones were tipped over but
no graffiti was found on the Wall
o funding, insurance and a security camera was discussed
o it was requested that if the cemetery plot information was included that the city help pay,
there was some discussion as to whether the city would help fund the project
o the history of the Friends group was explained to Director Overton
• It was requested that more signage be included, people are leaving the interstate to see the wall
but get lost at the signal light at Main and Highland
o sign options were discussed
1:11:13—Item #9 — Requests for deviations update—Thom White and/or Shane Surber:
• No deviations were requested
• a brief description of why the request for deviations is a monthly line item on the agenda
1:15:50— Item #10—Superintendent/Foreman Update—Thom White and/or Shane Surber:
• two seasonal are still working, started out with five
• the waste pile has been screened; the good dirt was kept to be used in the cemetery and city parks,
the rest was disposed of
• the farmer hayed the field
o a brief history of the farming area was provided

• Commission Andrus was not in attendance

1:22:33— Item #13— Confirm next meeting date— November 8, 2012:
• the next meeting has been moved to November 29"' at the same location and time
1:28:16— Item #14—Other business:
• Bridger Tree Farm is not returning calls regarding the trees that were donated for the Veterans
Wall, Chairperson Tuckerman will look into the situation (this was discussed with Item #13)
• the November agenda will include CIP ideas
• Chairperson Tuckerman will continue to reach out to the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital Interim CEO
1:30:34— Item #15—Adjournment:
Motion: Chairperson Derby motioned to adjourn the meeting.
Boardmember Ball seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 2:35pm.
