SUBJECT: Award bid for Sewer Flusher Truck FY13 Capital Improvement Program Project No. WW21
MEETING DATE: December 17, 2012

RECOMMENDATION: Award bid of the Wastewater Operations Sewer Jetter Truck in the
amount of $224,628.45 to Utility Specialties INC.
BACKGROUND: The FY13 Wastewater Capital Improvement Program (CIP) plans for the
replacement of the Sewer Flusher Truck. This truck was purchased new in FY02. This truck
flushes over 200 miles of sewer main a year and is a critical piece of equipment for the sewer
operations department. This Flusher Truck will be retained as a backup.
We received one bid for the Sewer Flusher Truck from Utility Specialties INC for $224,628.45.
The bid also contained options that we requested. We have elected to purchase the following
options.
• 3 flushing nozzles and 3 root cutting systems $15,446.45
• 800 feet of sewer hose and 4 leader hoses $4,192.00
• Automatic Level Wind $5,000.00
UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission.
FISCAL EFFECTS: This item is in the FY12 Wastewater CIP and budget. $253,094 was
budgeted for the Sewer Flusher Truck. The $224,628.45 bid and options received will result in a
