Recreation Division Report
Prepared By: Jamie Saitta, Recreation Manager
November 28, 2012
1. Due to the overwhelming success of our beginning archery classes for women, we added
intermediate classes which started this week and 40 women are signed up. It’s been a hit and
has helped put our department on the map for adult programs! We hope to continue to offer
archery classes through Big Sky Archery during the fall season. We also have plans to expand
women specific programming with classes such as fly fishing.
2. Each December the Recreation Division and the Bozeman High School Honor Society help Santa
write letters and make phone calls to children throughout the valley and beyond. Parents are
invited to call our office between December 3 and 13 to get their kids on Santa’s list. We
average over 100 letters and 70 phone calls. It is a very popular and fun program to offer.
3. Our annual Breakfast with Santa will take place on Friday, December 21 at 10:00am at the Beall
Park Recreation Center. We normally see 50 kids (age 0-6yr) and their families at this festive
event. Pre-registration is required and it tends to fill fast.
4. We are moving forward with our partnership with the Figure Skating Club to offer Learn to Skate
lessons on the Bogert rink from 4:00-6:00pm. We are in the process of finalizing the contract
and will begin marketing as soon as it is complete.
5. We are developing our summer program schedule and plan to have the first draft to the
Bozeman Daily Chronicle by February 1. We have a lot of great ideas in the works, some old
favorites and some exciting new offerings.
6. The Recreation Manager (Jamie) and Recreation Leader II (Holly) will be moving into their new
offices on December 10. Mitch will move his office to the Beall Park Recreation Center the week
of December 17.
7. We are in the process of recruiting 2 part time Recreation Leaders to work year round planning
and implementing our programs. We hope to have them hired by the middle of December.
8. The Bozeman Parks and Recreation Department, YMCA, Montana Parent Magazine, Montana
Outdoor Science School and The Children’s Museum host the Summer Activities Round Up in
April. Our planning committee meets once a month starting in December.

9. The Beacon Park will be located on the South East corner of Beall Park between the pavilion and
the playground. The park will be put in once we have enough snow, hopefully by the beginning
of January.
10. We will be hosting two more free Zumba demo classes in December to help promote these new
adult programs. Zumba Fitness on December 10 from 12:10pm-1:00pm at Beall and Aqua
Zumba on December 11 from 5:30-6:15pm at the Swim Center. We have Zumba classes
scheduled in January and February and punch cards are available to purchase.
11. We have had requests from the public to purchase Bozeman Parks and Recreation Department
merchandise, so we are in the process of determining what we will order and have available.
Some thoughts are hats, t-shirts, swim caps, stickers and discs for disc golf.
