Motion to approve minutes from 4.12 by Bentley. Seconded by Ballard. Public Comment None Action Items Review Proposed Survey (Baker) Group reviewed proposed survey, which will gauge idling habits and attitudes in Bozeman. Minor edits, and major restructuring of the first few questions. Discussion about how best to include ‘Warming’ the engine. Agreement that the initial proposal works. Baker expressed that she has heard differing recommendations from mechanics -- some actually recommend warming your car for 10 min, while others say it is best to warm by driving slowly. Why the differences/ disconnect, when Agronne says it is best to warm by driving? Meyer thought this could be because of potential concerns for liability; if a mechanic were to recommend someone warm their car by driving, and someone popped up to 80mph immediately on the highway, they could potentially be liable for some damage to the car. Group discussion led to thinking about possible outreach to mechanics. Discussed the potential for getting some sort of warming-idling information into mechanics’ continuing education. Ballard suggested that the Clean Cities Coalition might be able to host some sort of training for mechanics. Group agreement to adopt the survey, including the new edits discussed. Review Proposed Monitoring Plans (Baker) Baker presented a proposal she created to monitor idling in Bozeman. Group reviewed plans for monitoring plans specific to banks, drive-thrus, schools, and post offices. Discussion about where specifically in town will be best to do the monitoring. Ruff said that the downtown post office is much more conducive to idling than the one in Norhwest Bozeman, due to more parking being available there. Hert thought we should include a drive-through coffee shop. Group agreement to adopt the monitoring plan, and will begin soon! Discuss administering survey and monitoring Recruiting volunteers Weaver has recruited a group of girl scouts to take this on as a Silver Award project! There will be around 8 girls of 12-13. Types of handouts to include with survey Looked at recruiting materials made for Clean Up Day; we probably want something more serious and fact-based to hand out with the surveys. Updates from other Climate Action Plan working groups Website is in the process of being created, and we have a space set aside for the efforts of idle-free Bozeman. More to come on this, as the process of creating a website moves forward. FYI/Discussion Bozeman Climate Alliance Meeting May 22nd, 6:30pm, City Commission Room Bentley described the mission of the BCA to the group, and told us how he envisions the evening, and the group to work in complement to the work of the Bozeman Climate Partners.
