Box 1230 Bozeman, MT. 59771 (406) 582-2910 Recreation Division Report Prepared by: Jamie Saitta, Recreation Manager November 2, 2012 1. We (Mitch, Dan and Jamie) attended the National Parks and Recreation Association Congress in Anaheim, CA in October. It was a very inspirational week full of learning, sharing and networking with thousands of Parks and Recreation Professionals from all over the country and even the world. Each of us brought back ideas to implement in our department! 2. We recently updated our capital improvement plan. Recreation projects include, a clean and seal of the Lindley Center basement which is infested with rodents and no longer able to be used for much needed storage, a Lindley Center parking lot upgrade for ADA accessibility, and a Lindley Center bathroom renovation for ADA accessibility and ease of cleaning/sanitizing. 3. Construction on the Beall Park Recreation Center offices will begin in the next couple of weeks and be completed by the first of December. The expansion will include two offices and allow for Mitch to relocate from the parks shop to the center. The building capacity will decrease to 90, down from 120. We continue to rent the space on a very consistent basis and have not seen a decrease in rentals due to this project (the facility is able to be reserved a year in advance). 4. We continue to see interest in our women's archery program at Big Sky Archery and have added intermediate level classes to meet the identified need. Those classes will take place in November. We are thrilled with the success of these programs and are working on adult program expansion which will satisfy a variety of interest areas. 5. The Gallatin Valley Skate Park Association and the Parks and Recreation Department have met to discuss a partnership as it relates to improving the existing skate park as well as introducing skateboarding programs for people of all ages. We are excited about the potential. 6. Participation numbers in our fall programs have been up and we have received a lot of great feedback about what is being offered. We are brainstorming special event ideas and hope to continue to expand our family programs. We continually welcome community input during the planning process. 7. The Bozeman Beacon Park in Beall Park offered during the winter months through a partnership with the Friends of the Gallatin National Forest and the Parks and Recreation Department is scheduled to open when there is enough snow on the ground to do so.
