Recreation Department Report
Prepared by: Jamie Saitta
July 12, 2012
1. Our staff is staying very busy with our summer programs which are now in full swing! We have
2,200 people signed up for our classes between June and August. This number does not include
the Sweet Pea Children's Run which our department organizes and we normally have over 1,000
kids participating in that event alone. This year it will be on August 0' at 10:OOam and we need
50 volunteers to make the event happen. If you or anyone you know is interested, please let me
know.
2. We are also staying very busy with facility rentals. Between the Story Mansion, Beall, Lindley
Center and the Beall Park Pavilion, we have 200 reservations on the calendar between June and
August.
3. The Recreation Department is offering kids activities during Lunch on the Lawn on Wednesdays
from 11:30-1:30pm. Yesterday was the first one of the summer and we recruited some new
program participants, so we felt that it was very worthwhile for us to be there.
4. Holly and I have been working on our fall, winter and spring program schedule which will be out
in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle on August 12. We will continue to run our preschool programs
which remain popular and are excited to offer full day camps for kids K-5`h grade on days they
are out of school. We continue to hear that there is a need.
5. We are continuing to explore the benefits of contracting with instructors to offer more
specialized programs. Our hope is to expand programming for adults within the next year.
6. We are excited to welcome our new Parks and Recreation Director, Mitch Overton. His first day
will be on July 30.
