HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation 12- Designation of Main Street as a 2012 Great Street in America Mayoral ProclamationMAYORAL PROCLAMATION OF .SAW 8TJt='J-- - WHEREAS, the American Planning Association's Great Places in America program, begun in 2007, celebrates the unique elements and important attributes of selected streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces for their contributions to a community's quality of life; and WHEREAS, designated Great Places exemplify lasting value, exceptional character, and the role planners and planning play in helping create such areas; and WHEREAS, ten designees in each of the three Great Places categories, which are streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces, are announced each year; and WHEREAS, Bozeman's Main Street between Third and Broadway Avenues was designated as one of ten Great Streets for 2012 under the Great Places in America program; and WHEREAS, Bozeman's Main Street was recognized for its historic character and architecture, vibrant arts and culture and vigorous economy; and WHEREAS, since the American Planning Association began Great Places in America in 2007, 60 neighborhoods, 60 streets and 50 public spaces have been designated in 50 states and the District of Columbia; and WHEREAS, Bozeman's Main Street is just the second Great Place designation in the State of Montana, joining Red Lodge's Broadway Avenue recognized in 2010. NOW THEREFORE, I HEREB Y RECOGNIZE THE UNIQUE, A UTHENTIC AND MEMORABLE CHARACTER OF BOZEMAN'S MAIN STREET TO BE RECOGNIZED AS A GREAT STREET OF AMERICA, AND ENCOURAGE THE COMMUNITY TO CONTINUE TO RESPECT AND PROMOTE DEVELOPMENT SENSITIVE TO ITS HISTORIC CHARACTER. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereto set my hand and cause the Great Seal of the City of Bozeman, Montana to be affixed this 15'h day of October, 2012. Mayor Sean A. Becker
