HomeMy WebLinkAboutBike Board appts _Memo_1.pdf Commission Memorandum REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission FROM: Aimee Brunckhorst, Deputy City Clerk / Board Coordinator Stacy Ulmen CMC, City Clerk SUBJECT: Appointments to the Bozeman Area Bicycle Advisory Board MEETING DATE: October 22, 2012 MEETING TYPE: Action RECOMMENDATION: I move to appoint [up to three applicants] to the Bozeman Area Bicycle Advisory Board. BACKGROUND: Four vacancies currently exist on BABAB. One has been ongoing for a non- voting High School liaison and the other three vacancies came about due to recent resignations from members with new time constraints. Five new applications have been received. None of the applicants qualify for the High School liaison position. The Bike Board discussed the applicants that had applied by October 3rd and would like to forward a recommendation to the Commission to appoint Brian Hughes and Petra Davis. They are in the process of contacting the other applicants to determine the strengths they may be able to bring to the board and will pass on a recommendation prior to appointment for the third position. The Bozeman Area Bicycle Advisory Board (BABAB) was created by the City Commission in September 1990 (Resolution No. 2817). Its purpose is to recommend safe bicycle practices throughout Bozeman in regard to enhanced bicycle circulation and design, community-wide bicycle education and safety programs, and other matters relating to bicycling in the Bozeman area. As amended by Ordinance 1594, Chapter 2.98 in April 2003, the board shall consist of up to nine members who will serve two year staggered terms. Each member may be reappointed without any limitation on the number of reappointments. Persons must be of legal age. A majority of the board shall be residents of the city. Non-resident members of the board shall have some interest in the city by virtue of working in the city, owning property in the city, or entering the city frequently for any lawful purpose. In addition, the members should be knowledgeable of bicycling and/or traffic safety in the Bozeman area. This board has four vacancies (one for a High School student) and five new applicants.
