WHEREAS, the Red Ribbon Celebration brings millions of people, across the US together to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, and encourage
prevention, early intervention, and treatment services; and
WHEREAS, Red Ribbon Week is the largest, most visible prevention awareness campaign observed annually in the United States and the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October; and
WHEREAS, By wearing red ribbons and participating in community anti-drug events,
young people pledge to live a drug-free life; and WHEREAS, We encourage community members to wear and display red ribbons and
participate in drug-free activities throughout the week as studies show support of people in the
community is the most effective tool to reduce use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; and
WHEREAS, Beyond wearing a red ribbon, we encourage parents and adults to use this occasion to talk with children about drugs, alcohol and tobacco as short, frequent discussions can
have a real impact on a child’s decisions about alcohol, drugs and tobacco, and children of
parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42 percent less likely to use drugs than
those who don't, yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations; and WHEREAS, We also encourage all community members to attend the Red Ribbon Event
on Thursday, October 25, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Bozeman City Hall when Lieutenant Jake
Wagner from the Missouri River Drug Task Force will discuss drug trends in our community.
