Recreation Division Report
Prepared By: Jamie Saitta, Recreation Manager
October 4, 2012
1. Our School’s Out Adventure Camps for children age 6-10 have been a great addition to our fall,
winter and spring program schedule. These are full day camps (7:45am-5:30pm) happening on
days when public schools are closed. Bikes and Boulders camp was held in September and was
full with a waiting list. Spooky Sports Camp happening on October 18 and 19 is close to full.
2. Preschool classes are offered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s for 2-5 year olds and their
parents. Each month follows a different theme, October is “Harvest Art” and 17 kids are signed
up. Our next Little Explorers Tour is on Friday, October 5. We will take a group of 2-6 year olds
to Summit Aviation, both sessions are full with waiting lists.
3. We will be hosting our annual preschool Halloween Party at the Beall Park Recreation Center on
Wednesday, October 31 at 10:00am. This has become a popular event through the years and is
a great opportunity for kids to have another chance to wear their costumes. Pre-registration is
required and the fee is $5 for City Residents and $7 for non-residents.
4. Our new archery programs started this week and have been hugely successful. All classes are
full and sessions have been added to accommodate all of the interest. We have been thrilled
with the response. We offer a beginning class for ages 9+ and 2 classes for women. Classes are
taught by archery professionals from Big Sky Archery and are held at their facility. We are
excited about this partnership and look forward to expanding in the future.
5. We ended up with 6 teams in our Fall Kickball League; this is the first time we have offered a fall
league, so we were happy with the turnout. Games are held on Tuesday evenings in Beall Park.
The season ends on October 23.
6. We have been exploring a partnership with the Figure Skating Club in an attempt to expand our
ice skating lesson program. We are talking about contracting with the group to offer learn to
skate classes afterschool on the rink at Bogert.
7. Mitch, Dan, Holly, Doug and I attended the Montana Recreation and Parks Association annual
conference in Missoula September 25-28. Over 200 Parks and Recreation professionals from
both Montana and Idaho came together for a week full of networking and learning. We each
brought back some great ideas to implement in Bozeman.

8. The Lindley Center deck project has been pushed back to spring. Our goal is to have it
completed by May. The bids came back over budget so we did some modifications to the
original plans reducing the overall square footage of the deck. The updated drawings are with
the Planning Department for review.
9. The Beall Park Recreation Center offices are being expanded in preparation for Mitch, Parks and
Recreation Director, to relocate from the Parks Shop. Two Administrative Assistants, the
Recreation Manager, Recreation Leader II and all Recreation Leader I’s currently work out of
Beall, so more space is a necessity. Bids for construction are due to City Hall by October 19 and
the building has been reserved for construction October 15-November 30. Once completed the
building capacity for public rentals will go from 120 people to 90. To date, we have not seen a
huge impact on rentals because of the building capacity being lower.
