HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-12 Park ReportPark Report October 2012
We are down still at three seasonal employees; all of whom will be
done at the end of the October pay period. That basically leaves 6
FTE’s to do the work of transitioning from summer to winter.
Fall maintenance and projects are on-going: aeration and fertilization
of athletic fields and core parks, seeding the boulevards at Bronken,
winterizing restrooms, drinking fountains and irrigation systems will
occur this month. As weather dictates, leave mulching and clean-up
will be a priority in front of ice rinks. The daily tasks of garbage
collection, dog waste removal, restroom duties, mowing, etc……..
remain steady.
Park Improvement Grant (PIG) project update: West side connector
trail is complete and the Sourdough bridge project is moving right on
schedule. My goal is to get all projects ‘zeroed” out and completed
before we advertize for fiscal year 2113’s allotment of $75,000.
User groups are in full swing at Christie Park (Lion’s Club midget
football), Softball Complex (YMCA’s flag football) and at Bronken
(AYSO recreational soccer).
Doug and I are in the early stages of identifying potential Park
Improvement Grant projects for next summer. As I discussed last
month, we will be suggesting bigger projects, that, hopefully, groups
will step up and take on.
One Toro 4100 large area mower was purchased in accordance with
our approved Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). I mentioned this
because of the new “Tier 4” diesel regulations, which will increase the
cost of the mowers and tractors we use most by more than 20%. We
were able to get this mower before all of the “old” engines were gone.
So instead of $58,000- we got it for $48,000.
Doug E., our parks foremen was recently in Missoula at the MRPA
conference along with Mitch and the Recreation and Aquatics staff. He
also took the Certified Playground Safety Inspector course and took the
test to become a CPSI.
