Work with other Bozemanites on grassroots solutions to greenhouse gas emissions, and adapting to a changing climate. Alternative Energy Resources Organization AERO is a non-profit working towards solutions that promote resource conservation and local economic vitality. You may know them from their Energy Tour series, advocacy for local food, and RePower Montana website. www.aeromt.org Montana Renewable Energy Association MREA is a non-profit working to expand the use of renewable energy in Montana. They host an annual renewable energy fair, and have many resources related to clean energy. Interactive Water Use and Resource Conservation Center The IWURC center is a non-profit educational facility in Four Corners. They showcase operating water and energy-saving systems, so consumers can see them in action. Their center is open for viewing, and they host a popular weekly lecture series. Gallatin Valley Land Trust GVLT is a non-profit working to conserve open landscapes, farms and ranches, and creates trails to connect people, communities, and the land. If you enjoy the Main Street to the Mountains Trail System or The Longest Day of Trails, you should thank them! www.gvlt.org Bozeman Area Bicycle Advisory Board BABAB is an advisory board to the City Commission, promoting safe and effective bicycle commuting opportunities in Bozeman. The board provides input to city growth plans and infrastructure projects, and runs the annual Bike to Work Week. www.facebook.com/bozemanbikeboard Bozeman Bike Kitchen The Bike Kitchen is a non-profit, cooperative cycling center dedicated to making the use of bicycles as transportation possible and fun for all members of the Bozeman community. The Kitchen teaches Bozeman residents about bicycle care and maintenance and refurbishes bikes through organized volunteer efforts. www.bozemanbikekitchen.org Idle Free Bozeman Idle Free Bozeman is an advisory board to the City Commission, advocating for cleaner air and lowered greenhouse gas emissions by educating the public about the impacts and facts regarding idling vehicles. The Gallatin Valley Bike Club The GVBC is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and improving cycling in the Gallatin Valley. The Club sponsors the annual Bike Swap, and local events benefiting cyclists, such as the Montana Special Olympics, Bike to Work Week, Longest Day of and Trails, and the Bike Kitchen. The Dirt Concern is the mountain biking branch of GVBC. www.gallatinvalleybicycleclub.org 1,000 New Gardens 1KNGAisAaAgrassrootsAcommunityAgroupAstartedAbyAstudentsAinAMSU’sASustainableAFoodAandABioenergyA Systems program. They help homeowners dig new gardens, compost commercially-generated coffee 2 grounds, glean unwanted fruit, and helped create the gardens at the Gallatin Valley Food Bank. www.1000newgardens.ning.org Extension Yard and Garden MSU Extension Yard and Garden has educational sheets on almost every imaginable gardening problem. They organize volunteer Stream Teams to monitor water quality, hold annual watershed tours, and work on stream restoration projects. www.greatergallatin.org The Water Center The MSU Water Center is a water research institute, coupled with an outreach arm called Montana Watercourse. They are a great resource for groundwater and water quality information. www.watercenter.montana.edu indoors for toilets or plants, DEQ requires it be treated. Greater Gallatin Zero Waste Coalition GGZWC is a group of concerned citizens working to enable local government to create more recycling and reuse possibilities in Gallatin County. Find them on Facebook. ReStore of Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a service of the non-profit Habitat for Humanity, and is operated on an all-volunteer basis. It takes offers used bathroom fixtures, tile, flooring materials, and hardware at low prices (and accepts donations of used items as well). www.habitatbozeman.org/bozeman-restore Human Empowered Arts Project (HEAP) Bozeman HEAP Bozeman is a non-profit,ABozeman’sAlocalAhubAforAreusing,AakaA“upcycling”AcreativityAandAwisdom…AA They conduct workshops and classes, sell beautiful upcycled creations, write a column for Montana 3 Parent Magazine, and take orders for special projects. They organize a Thrift Cooperative, which offers coupons and a great map for various thrift stores. www.heapbozeman.org Climate Change MT: The Wilderness Society Climate Change MT is compiling cutting-edge research on climate change in our state. Their eyewitnesses to climate change program gives voice to the many changes citizen-scientists have observed around the state. It is a branch of the non-profit The Wilderness Society. www.climatechangeMT.org Climate Change Program: The Greater Yellowstone Coalition The climate change program of the GYC focuses on the implications of climate change for wildlife and recreation.
