HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-16-12 Aquatics Update Recreation BoardAquatics update – 9/2012 Bogert finished another successful season. There were almost 16,000 visits to Bogert this season. The filter system at Bogert was repaired by the installation company; we are still working out some of the details of why this filter system did not perform as promised and who is responsible. We are as a department holding the installation company fully responsible and will take this all the way if we need to. Staff is currently working on winterizing the facility, and will have that completed soon. Staff has moved back to the Swim Center. We did not have a fall maintenance closure, due to the fact we closed in March to replace the heaters. We have been working in the water turbidity issue and now have a handle on it. We approached it by two methods, 1: we shifted our saturation index to a different pH value, and 2: we change our filter media from a rock mineral to a wood based product. This gave us two advantages: 1. the wood based media has a finer filtering ability 2. The wood based filter media is safer for staff to handle. Along with those two major advantages, it is also cheaper. Currently the pool looks fantastic, we can once again see end to end underwater. We are currently hosting the Barracuda splash camp. This is an opportunity for kids to try out for the swim team. They get to see what it is like to be on the team before the parents have to commit to the full price of being on the team. This year they have 65 participants, which is fantastic. The only problem is the swim team can only take 20-25 new swimmers, before they reach their max of 120 swimmers. This maximum is what they fell they can safely hold practice for, for the amount of pool we can give them. We are out of space to give them more lanes. Fall swim lessons are filling very well. This year we introduced lessons in September, which we had not done before. They are filling very well; I do believe that we will continue doing this into the future.
